Pumpkin Patch

We went with our local playgroup last week to a pumpkin patch!  It was a lot of fun!

There were all sorts of forts, slides, swings, play sets, etc.

Jonathan loves animals of all kinds!  He liked it when the calves licked his hands.

And he enjoyed petting the calves too.  There was a lady who had a bag of lettuce and carrots that she and a few kids were feeding the calves.  Before I could stop him, Jonathan grabbed some of the lettuce out of a little girls hand and proceeded to stuff it in his mouth!  You would think we never feed the poor child :-P

This tractor pulled our wagon out to the pumpkin patch.  Jonathan loves tractors!

26 Weeks

Happy Birthday Jeff!

Happy 36th Birthday Jeff!  

Jeff, you are a terrific husband and father.  We love you soooo much and are soooo thankful for you!  May the Lord bless this upcoming year of your life.

Jonathan - 1 year old!

Jonathan Lewis Ogan, you are ONE YEAR OLD!

At the beginning of this month, you turned one year old!  It is hard to believe an entire year has passed since God blessed our family with you!  We love you so much and have enjoyed watching you learn and grow. 

• You now weigh somewhere between 22 - 23lbs (closer to 23 I think).  And I really need to measure you and see how tall you are.
• You are wearing a few 12 month clothes, but mostly 18 months.  You are in a 4 diaper - we are still doing cloth diapers during the day, but you wear a disposable at night.  You wear a 5 shoe.
• You still have only 4 teeth (two top middle and two bottom middle), which makes for one really cute grin.
• You LOVE your daddy and will walk all over the house saying, "Da da, da da da!"
• You like balls - A beach ball we received from a friend's swim party is one of your favorites.  You also have a soft softball, a small soccer ball, and some various small plastic balls that you play with a lot!
• You love to read books, and will sometimes sit for 10-15 minutes by yourself looking at the pages.  Just this week you started bringing me books, handing them to me, then reaching your arms up to sit in my lap so I can read to you.
• You like to brush your teeth, and will even get your tooth brush out of your drawer when you see Daddy or Mommy brushing our teeth.
• You clap your hands a lot, and are pretty proud of yourself when you do.  You like to sing, "If You're Happy and Know it Clap Your Hands" and you like to do Pat-A-Cake (we have a book of nursery rhymes with this in it, and you will turn to that page and start clapping)
• You love to laugh, and if Daddy and I are laughing at something, you will join in and start dancing around the kitchen, even though you don't have a clue as to what is going on (you most likely think we are laughing at you!)
• You still love to eat :-)
• You continue to be a very pleasant traveler and seem to really love your new carseat.
• You are still taking 2 naps a day, and are not a very happy camper if you miss one - this makes Sunday's a little difficult.  You have recently started fighting your afternoon nap sometimes, but after trying to go without a day or two we have decided it is in everyone's best interest if we still make you take one.
• You are the funniest thing when you are falling asleep.  We place you in your crib with your "Puppers" (puppy lovie) and "Blue" (blanket), and you grab them both and chew on them, hug them, and begin to wallow all over the place.  You will stand up, sit down, roll over, put your legs through the crib slats, put your head on the mattress and stick your hiney high in the air, kick the sides of the crib, flop over, stand up, sit down, etc.  This will continue for 30-45 minutes sometimes.  Most of the time you are happy as can be wallowing yourself to sleep.  Daddy and I love to watch you on the monitor as you're doing your fall asleep routine - we laugh a lot!  Daddy so wants you to cuddle up and take an afternoon nap with him, but you wallow way to much and would end up on the floor!  We put you in bed with us one night recently when you were having a little bit of a hard time falling asleep to see what you would do.  After a few minutes of wallowing around between the two of us, you stood up and pointed to your room, as if you were saying "please go put me back in my bed!"
• You have learned to point at things and you have learned to shake your head no.  You have recently put the two together and will point to something you aren't supposed to do/touch while shaking your head.  You have also picked up on a "ahh ahhh ahhh" sound mommy will make when you start to touch something you aren't supposed to, and you will mimick it back to me :-)
• You love music and dancing, and recently started doing a really cute dance move - you will keep one foot planted, while stomping the other and turning in a circle - so cute!
• You have the fuzziest blonde hair, which Mommy thinks is pretty cute.  It looks like it has static all the time.  It is starting to get a little thicker lately though, and some days even lays down by itself.  You look like such a big boy when Mommy parts it and slicks it down.
• You don't have a very big vocabulary yet, but do say: Dada, Mom or Momma, ball, vroom, woof, and ahh ahhh ahhh
• You love bath time!  You get a bath almost every night, and love to splash and spray.  You like to pull the plug out of the bottom, and then will try to grab the little water tornado that appears as the tub is draining.  You don't seem to care too much if there is water in the tub or not, and will continue to play with your toys in the empty tub as long as I will let you once the water disappears!

Roseola?

We got home from MN on a Sunday night, and Monday morning J began running a fever:  102-103 without meds, 99-100 when he had Motrin in his system.  He also began SCREAMING anytime he would drink liquids, but did better with solid foods.  He was all around fussy and didn't have his normal HUGE appetite.  He was drooling up a storm.  So Tuesday we headed in to the pediatrician, and discovered that although his ears and throat were a little red, they were not infected.  It was decided that he probably had a virus of some sort.  We got a prescription for antibiotics that we could fill later in the week if he was getting worse instead of better.  A few days later our little guy was still miserable, screaming with liquids, running a fever, etc.  So we decided Thursday night to try the antibiotic.  Friday afternoon his fever broke and he was starting to act a little like his normal self.  We had a good day Saturday and thought whatever had been going on was behind us.  Then Sunday morning when we picked J up from the nursery at church we discovered his tummy and back covered in this rash!

What do you think, does this look like Roseola?  Or an allergic reaction to antibiotic?



It did spread a little to his groin and the upper part of his legs, but was mainly just his tummy and back.

I read up on Roseola - fever for up to a week, and when the fever breaks a rash appears.  They can also have decreased appetite and swollen lymph nodes - both of which J had.  So maybe the lymph nodes really hurt when he drank liquids?  He tends to be a gulper when drinking.

Or was it an allergic reaction to the Zythramycin?  He broke out after the 3rd dose.

We did call the pediatrician Sunday afternoon to ask about giving J Children's Benadryl as he seemed very uncomfortable when the rash appeared.  The doctor seemed to sound like he thought it might be Roseola.

Tuesday morning the rash was so faint you could barely see it and our little guy was completely back to normal by that evening.

Road Trip Part 2

After leaving the farm, we headed to Winona, MN for Lindsay's wedding!  Lindsay and her family lived in Kentucky when we were kids, and we have been good friends since I was about 8 years old.  She was a bridesmaid in my wedding, and I was very excited to be one in hers too.  It was wonderful finally getting to meet Lindsay's man, visiting with her family, and going to the beautiful wedding!  The bride was so gorgeous!!!

Such a smart bride - Lindsay planned ahead and gave all of the ladies the shawls seen above, so that if the weather was cool (MN in October!) we would have something for warmth.  We took a lot of pictures outside, and we would have FROZEN without the shawls!  Check out Lindsay's super cute blue heels :-)

Me and my little guy!  Definitely not a great picture of either of us, lol - I think I was trying to hide my bouquet behind my back so he couldn't grab it, and I don't have a clue what he was looking at.  My mother was a huge blessing on the entire trip - she did A LOT of driving and took care of Jonathan A LOT so I could help with wedding preparation.

24 weeks

I am most definitely getting BIGGER!  I think I am already as big at 24 weeks as I was at 28-30 weeks with Jonathan - yikes!

PREGNANCY UPDATES

• I am feeling great!  I love being pregnant, especially at this stage of the pregnancy.
• The past 2 weeks I have had some heartburn off and on, but not too bad.  I am thinking it is mostly related to the foods I eat.  Maybe she will have hair???
• Kellen moves ALOT!  I feel kicks, punches, and rolls off and on all day long.  She is especially active at night when I lay down to go to sleep.
• I am sleeping pretty well (other than WEIRD pregnancy dreams)
• Pregnancy dreams this time around are WEIRD!  Why am I always back in high school or college in these dreams?
• Pregnancy brain = I HAVE IT!  Just ask my husband and he will quickly confirm this!  I forget things, drop things, say things that don't make sense, etc.

WHERE DID WE GET HER NAME?

Kellen - I heard this name as a teenager and have loved it ever since!  I have only heard of it used for boys, but I always thought it would be a beautiful and neat name for a little girl.  Thankfully, Jeff likes it too!

Rebekah - Two of my very best friends, who I have known since childhood, are Rebekahs!  I have a super sweet and wonderful sister-in-law named Rebekah.  And a wonderful cousin Rebecca.  Kellen's middle name is after all these wonderful ladies!

Road Trip Part One

The end of September my mom, myself, and Jonathan took a road trip!   We headed to Minnesota for one of my best friend's weddings :-)  And we decided to do a little visiting along the way.  Our first stop was Lincoln, NE, where we stayed the night and enjoyed catching up with some wonderful friends (Sadly, I wasn't very good at taking pictures - Ms. Carolyn, if you have any pictures from our stop at your place can you please email them to me?).  Our next stop was Hancock, MN where we visited my cousin Neeley, her husband Tom, and their cute kids S and J.  They are living on Tom's grandfather's 112 year old farm.  They grow corn and soy beans, and were in the process of harvsting the soy beans while we were there.  We loved getting to see and experience some of the adventures of farm life!

 

 This was the best cat ever!  Jonathan treated Oreo just like his stuffed animals - he squeezed him, rolled with him on the ground, layed on his, and snuggled with him.  And the cat didn't protest one time!  I don't particularly like cats, but this one did win me over.

 Yay, a basketball!  We have taken a strong liking to balls of any kind the past few months and Jonathan was thrilled to play with Cousin S's ball collection.

Jonathan had fun picking apples off the tree ground, but he REALLY loved eating them!  He ate the entire apple after I ate the peel off for him.  They were delicious apples!
